Eagles Dominate at Homecoming

In their second straight conference win, the Paris Eagles proved to be the better team against Cutter-Morning Star, defeating them 38-7 on homecoming night.

The Paris offense came out strong, scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter. The first came on a pass from quarterback Josh Honea to Jayden Carter, followed by a three-yard run from Dimitri Capo, who forced his way into the end zone. Paris would go on to add two more touchdowns in both the second and third quarters, spreading the scoring around. Ty Farmer and Harley Barnhill each hauled in a touchdown reception, while Honea and Capo each found the end zone on the ground. Cutter-Morning Star managed its only score late in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles’ defense once again dominated, holding the opposition to just seven points. Through the first five games of the season, the unit has allowed an average of only 10.4 points per game. Against Cutter-Morning Star, the defense allowed just 161 total yards of offense, giving up only 2.3 yards per carry on the ground. They also came up with two interceptions–one by linebacker Dalton Farnam and another by Jayden Carter. Carter led the team with nine tackles, along with an interception and a pass breakup. Linebackers Landon Robberson and Joel Johnson also made their presence felt, finishing with eight and five tackles, respectively.

On the offensive side, Josh Honea accounted for four of the team’s six touchdowns. He completed 9 of 11 passes for 123 yards, throwing three touchdowns with one interception, and added a rushing score. Dimitri Capo led the ground attack with 93 yards on 17 carries, while Ty Farmer paced the receivers with three catches for 60 yards and a touchdown. Jayden Carter contributed with a receiving touchdown and made an impact on special teams, returning a punt 83 yards to give Paris excellent field position for their next drive. The Paris offense totaled six touchdowns, three through the air and three on the ground, while committing just one turnover.

The Eagles, now 4-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play, will travel to Perryville this Friday, October 10th, for their third conference game of the season. The Mustangs enter the matchup with a 1-4 overall record and are still searching for their first conference win. Their lone victory came against Class 2A Bigelow, with losses to Atkins, Hector, Cutter-Morning Star, and Danville. In last week’s narrow 14-13 loss to Danville, Perryville once again showed their competitiveness–four of their five games this season have been decided by just one score. Paris will look to stay unbeaten in conference play, while Perryville aims to secure its first conference victory.
