Paris fell to 2-6 overall in a 38-26 loss last Friday to Lavaca. The Eagles remain winless in conference but not hopeless, as they still have a chance to make the 3A playoffs with two wins over Greenland and West Fork.
Paris started down 20-0 after three scores and a safety, but were able to battle back with three consecutive scores to make it a tied ball game. Both teams responded to tie it again 26-26. Lavaca scored again but Paris was not able to answer late in the fourth quarter.
Against Lavaca junior Athan Wells started at quarterback where he went 8/21 for 64 yards and 2 interceptions. Despite the struggles through the air, the offense was able to make a statement on the ground. Wells ran for 57 yards and a touchdown while freshman Noah Valdez ran for 162 yards and 2 touchdowns off of 28 carries. Landon Robberson was also able to add a score on the ground. The lead receiver was Harley Barnhill with 35 yards.
Defensively Paris was able to force multiple turnovers, with an impressive five interceptions (2 by Harley Barnhill and one by Brady Baumgartner, Brock Barnhill, and Robberson each).
This week the Eagles will face Greenland at home. The Pirates hold a 4-4 overall record with a 1-3 conference record. That win comes against West Fork. This Friday we will celebrate our seniors in their last game at home, while the Eagles try to keep their season alive.
